Rustam Battalion has become a beacon of goodwill in the region, embodying the spirit of "Awam ki Fauj". Through its diverse Sadbhavna activities, the Battalion has forged strong bonds with the local population, fostering trust, harmony, socio-economic development various initiatives showcasing commitment to community engagement. One of the most striking aspects of Rustam Battalion as “Awam Ki Fauj” is its role in disaster relief and humanitarian efforts. When a fire broke out in a house in Nambla A village on 27th May 2023, Battalion’s swift response and fire-fighting efforts were successful in preventing the fire from spreading further, thereby safeguarding the lives of the residents & surrounding properties. The efficient response and coordinated approach played a pivotal role in containing the fire and minimizing the overall damage caused by the incident. In addition to fire-fighting efforts, the Battalion went above and beyond to assist the affected family by providing immediate support by offering meals, warm clothing, bedding and tentage-based shelters to meet the family’s essential needs.
Realising the need for economic opportunities for the community through tourism, Rustam Battalion extended all possible support to ‘Nambla Volunteers’ in organising the ‘Nambla Waterfall Festival’. This festival drew an impressive turnout of 5,000 people, transforming the serene waterfall area into a vibrant hub of cultural festivities. The festival showcased the picturesque & unexplored serene waterfall along with folk music, culture & traditions of the local communitiy. Building further on the initiative, Rustam Battalion organised first of its kind cultural festival ‘Jashn -E-Rustam’ resulting in resounding success in promoting tourism along border region and creating economic opportunities. The festival provided a platform for the local artists to showcase their talent in front of 15000 people as well as through coverage on national and local media.
In an inspring display of commitment for the Awam, the Battalion focused on nurturing the future of school students by upgrading school infrastructure of Govt School Nambla, through a CSR project. This comprehensive effort involved upgradation of Digital infrastructure by providing Desktops and setting-up of Computer Lab, establishing state-of-the-art smart classrooms, upgradation of Library and construction of new sanitary blocks. Schools in these far-flung areas lack basic amenities leading to sub-optimal learning environment for children. Realising this challenge, the Battalion further went on to provide computers to two more govt schools, thus creating a digital-learning environment. The efforts exemplify a commitment to community development, fostering better educational opportunities and laying the foundation for a prosperous future for students in the region.
For holistic development of children, Rustam Battalion organized trekking expedition for Govt Schools students. These treks, led by army personnel, offered the children an opportunity to explore local trails, learn about the region’s flora and fauna, and develop a sense of adventure and environmental stewardship. These activities are crucial for instilling physical fitness, teamwork, a love for nature, and a sense of patriotism among the young participants. Battalion has consistently encouraged educational and creative pursuits among local children by organizing various competitions such as drawing, painting, and essay writing. These events provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and express their thoughts on themes like patriotism, peace, tourism and community. By recognizing and rewarding the winners, the battalion fosters a sense of achievement and motivation, inspiring the youth to strive for excellence. To promote tourism and instill a sense of national pride in young minds, Battalion also arranged visits to the iconic Kaman Post for school children from the region. The visit was both enlightening and inspiring, providing the children with a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices and dedication of the armed forces.
Rustam Battalion’s respect for the culture and religious pratices of the local community was reflected, when the Battalion hosted an Iftar party for the local Muslim community during Ramadan. This event brought together people from different backgrounds to share a meal and celebrate the spirit of togetherness. Regular interactions with the incoming Jamats have been organised by the Battalion wherein community and social issue were addressed the Battalion has further extended support to the minority community by extending full assistance in organising festivals at Param Pilan Gurudwara. Regular tea parties with Sarpanches, Ward members and village elderly provide a platform for discussing community issues and finding solutions collaboratively. These informal gatherings foster a spirit of cooperation and understanding, enabling the battalion to address local challenges effectively and improve the quality of life for residents.
In order to eradicate drug menace in the community, Rustam Battalion organised a five-day ‘Say No to Drugs’ Campaign in the collaboration with a local NGO. The transformative initiative aimed to raise awareness and educate about the perils of drug abuse while fostering a community committed to a drug-free future. The campaign’s highlight was a vibrant awareness walk engaging the ‘Awam’ in direct interaction. Youth and School children joined the campaign with creative expressions to address the importance of a drug-free life, leaving a profound impact on the ‘Awam’.
In Sep 2023, Rustam Bn with collaboration of NGOs organised a two-days free medical camp for the local community. The initiative aimed to provide essential medical care to village residents who often face significant challenges in accessing healthcare due to the region’s geographical and infrastructure limitation. 700 peoples including women, children and the elderly turned up for the camp to avail themselves for the medical care. Rustam Battalion also extend free medical check-up and care for the local ‘Awam’ routinely, fastering a healthier community.
Recognizing the contributions of ex-servicemen of the area, an ESM Rally for local veterans was organised. This event provided a forum for ex-servicemen to voice their concerns, share their experiences, and connect with their companions ESM Rally also included health check-ups, pension grievance redressals, and other welfare activities, ensuring that veterans received the support and recognition they deserved.
The Rustam Battalion’s diverse and regular initiatives exemplify the true essence of "Awam ki Fauj."
